Spring & summer is upon us. With this, comes the hot sun and harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) a few serious sunburns as a child can increase a child's risk of skin cancer later in life. Here are a few tips for protecting your child from the sun:
- Minimize sun exposure between 10am-4pm.
- Wear protective clothing, cover-up with long-sleeve shirts & pants
- Wear a hat that shades the face, scalp, ears & neck.
- Wear sunglasses that have 100% of UVA & UVB rays.
- Apply sunscreen using at least SPF 15. Apply the sunscreen at least 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and 30 minutes after exposure begins. Reapply after kids have been swimming and throughout the day.
